Balanced Chess
Why this project exists
An independent community satire

When balancing a balanced game makes it less balanced.

Balanced Chess exists to expose a familiar contradiction: endlessly changing a competitive game in the name of balance can eventually damage the balance that already worked.

The frustration

Patch culture can turn every complaint into a design decision.

StarCraft II players have watched small statistics, selective arguments and faction frustration become reasons for increasingly disruptive changes. The community joke about “the Blizzard intern” is satire—a shorthand for decisions that feel disconnected from how the whole game works.

This project criticizes balance philosophy and patch outcomes. It does not claim that a specific real employee is responsible.
Why chess?

We apply the same logic to a game people already call balanced.

White moves first, so Black must be compensated. Then compensation creates a new advantage. Then that advantage needs another fix. Balanced Chess turns that balancing spiral into a playable parody.

Official live rules · Patch 1.2.0

No PTR. No waiting. Every questionable idea goes straight to production.

Each profile now belongs permanently to Team White or Team Black in the global game; lobby colors remain freely selectable. Black still receives two opening actions, but Black Pawns may move only one square during both compensated actions; their normal starting two-square option returns afterward. Black can Burrow, White can Lift, and adjacent Kings can clear either inactive enemy state.

Built by frustrated players

A public board for criticism, comedy and collective chaos.

This project was created by a group of players annoyed by the direction of modern balance patches. Instead of another angry forum thread, we built a game where everyone can vote on the next move—and experience bad balancing together.
